The desire for children could be considered a reliable predictor of subsequent fertility. At the same time, the sex composition of surviving children, along with other demographic and socioeconomic factors, may affect a couple's fertility desire and, therefore, their subsequent fertility.

Abstract: 

OBJECTIVE: To assess the association between human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and pregnancy intentions and safer conception knowledge among female sex workers in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. METHODS: This cross-sectional study recruited female sex workers in Port Elizabeth using respondent-driven sampling and completed an interviewer-administered questionnaire alongside HIV testing and counseling. In this secondary analysis, robust Poisson regression was used to model prevalence ratios for positive fertility intentions in this cross-sectional study.

Abstract: 

The Philippines has a contraceptive prevalence rate of 55%, based on the 2013 Philippines National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS). Most contraceptive users rely on modern methods, but over the past 10 years traditional method use has continued to comprise about a third of all contraceptive users in the country. This study examines recent levels, patterns, and determinants of traditional contraceptive method use, based on pooled data from the 2003, 2008, and 2013 Philippines DHS surveys.

Abstract: 

BACKGROUND: Perceived discordance of fertility desires may be more common among couples with certain sociodemographic characteristics and may lead to lower contraceptive use. METHODS: Using nationally representative data from adults ages 15-49 in France in 2010, we analysed associations between sociodemographic characteristics, perceived discordance of fertility desires and contraceptive use with design-based logistic regression. RESULTS: Only 8% of participants perceived discordant fertility desires while 92% perceived concordance with partner fertility desire.

Abstract: 

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the association between socio-demographic factors and contraceptive use among fecund women under 25years old. METHODS: This study utilized a cross-sectional data (n=3744) extracted from the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey 2011. Differences in the use of contraceptives by socio-demographic characteristics were assessed by chi2 analyses. Binary logistic regression was used to identify the determinants of contraceptive use among young women. RESULTS: This study observed that 71% fecund women aged below 25years used contraceptives.

This report summarizes the results of a formative research study on the role of couple communication in family planning within the context of child marriages in Zambia.
