Abstract:

A physician outlines several experiments he performed to determine the existence of a menstrual toxin and its effects. Flowers held by a menstruating woman wilted faster than those held by a control subject. Dough kneaded by a menstruating woman did not raise as high as that kneaded by a control subject. Further research indicated that according to folk wisdom, menstruating women should not handle flowering plants, get near fermenting wine, or handle growing mushrooms, among other things.
