This drug (SH-582), used in a dose of 200 mg by intramuscular injection, at 8-week intervals, is rather unreliable as a contraceptive. However, it does have a reliable contraceptive effect for a period of approximately 4 weeks. It has a favorable effect upon dysmenorrhea, which decreases or disappears in 80% of the cases. After 1 full year of use, lactation remains practically unaffected. Adverse side effects are also practically absent. Clinically, the most important alteration that it produces concerns the menstrual cycle. It was very well accepted by the group of 150 women studied in Bogota, Colombia.
