Women with regular ovulations were treated with various steroids, most of which had progestational properties. The patients received the compounds in various doses from the 5th to the 24th day of the cycle. For determination of ovulation inhibition the pregnanediol output in the urine was estimated during the second half of the cycle and the values were compared with those in a control cycle of the same subject. The most active agent in our experience was 6-chloro-6-dehydro-17ɑ acetoxyprogesterone. With daily doses of 1-2 mg from this substance the ovulation could be suppressed in 85% of the cases and with higher doses in all cases.
