The first part deals with recent contributions on some of the key concepts, such as production, reproduction and invisible labour which are essential for understanding the meaning of the sexual division of labour. The second part discusses the state of the art of the studies that have been conducted recently on the sexual division of labour in agriculture in developed countries. The papers chosen do not adhere to a specific cultural context or to a specific subject as they cover not only the field of human geography, but also that of other social sciences, particularly economics, anthropology, sociology and history.
