Abstract:

Results of the Eleventh General Census of Population and Housing, conducted in 1990, are presented for the state of Aguascalientes. The 49 tables present information on the main characteristics of spatial distribution of the population, sex and age structure, migration, population speaking indigenous languages, religion, literacy, school attendance and educational status, marital status, fertility and mortality, economic characteristics of the population, and the most important characteristics of housing and households. An introductory section discusses methodological aspects including planning, development of the questionnaire, cartography, training, operational structure, data processing, and communication of results. The reasons for collecting information on each of the included topics are then explained. The nine municipios of Aguascalientes contained 1357 localities, of which 1053 had fewer than 100 inhabitants. The total population of 719,659 included 350,218 males and 369,441 females. Only 599 persons spoke an indigenous language. Of the population aged 6-14, 9407 of 87,578 males and 8043 of 86,042 females were illiterate. Among persons over 15, 11,912 of 202,065 men and 18,142 of 224,207 women were illiterate. Of the 599,892 persons 6 years and over, 64,361 had no primary education and 199,057 had postprimary education. The average number of live births for women 12 and over was 2.7. Of the 483,625 persons over age 12, 217,092 were economically active, including 212,365 employed and 4727 unemployed. A total of 130,709 dwelling places were enumerated. Of the 129,853 private dwelling places, 124,116 had access to piped water and 123,426 had electricity.
